D-LITE
I was constantly wondering how I can sing a song simply, purely

Japan’s solo debut is a J-Pop cover album

JILLE: You completed your solo album!
D-LITE: Initially when the solo debut was being decided, I was very happy but at the same time, I was also worried about many things. Up till now it has always been 5 people using 1 song to express and create their views and ideas. This time, I have to do it all alone using Japanese language to cover the Japanese songs and this is why there are many factors that I have to consider about. This is why during the start; I did consider giving up (laugh)

JILLE: Ahahahaha. This is a surprise for us because D-LITE is such a strong singer who also has obstacles that he has problems with.
D-LITE: Yes. There are problems with pronunciation, it is also difficult for me to express my ideas in Japanese and there are also many things that I have to practice for. Also, the original singers have all done a great job, nearing to a perfect song. So it was really difficult, but thanks to the producers and staff members support and help, I was able to complete a quality album. I am very satisfied about what has been completed and I feel that this is a very valuable experience.

JILLE: Are there any songs you like in particular?
D-LITE: Saito Kazuyoshi’s “Singer’s Ballad”. This song was initially not in the list of recommended songs given to me by the staff members. When I was searching for songs online, I saw MR.children covering “Singer’s Ballad” live video and I really liked it. Japanese song lyrics always makes me confess my own feelings indirectly in a long-winded way(laugh), but for this song I am able to express directly about how I feel when I sing. As I am always thinking, ‘how can I sing simply’, so there are actually a huge significance to it.

JILLE: From slow ballad songs to fast tempo rock songs, your album really has a rich variety of songs. What was the meaning behind the album title “D’scover”?
D-LITE: Initially I wanted to name this album “DLive” but I changed it suddenly at the end. I like watching documentary programs and one day before the meeting, I was watching Discovery Channel. It was at that point of time where I had a sudden idea (laugh). In “D’scover” it means D-LITE’s cover because I will be mixing the original song and my colors together. I think it is fate when I was watching the safari program (laugh)

JILLE: (laugh) your first solo tour is about to begin.
D-LITE: I am really feeling nervous now (laugh), I would like to show everybody all the sides of D-LITE. I hope I can use the song to express to all of you what I feel about humanity and I hope to create a very warm tour.

Q: What type of documentary programs do you like?
A: Previously I was watching a documentary DVD series then I cried alone and the same thing happened again afterward. I also like programs that tell me about aliens, space or fishes living in deep sea. In future if there’s a special episode about “Deep sea fishes” please tell me (laugh)
