Title: “I will be happy if the songs I sing now will become someone’s memories in future”

D-LITE san’s Q&A
Q: What makes you happy when you stay in Japan?
A: Good rice. Up till quite recently, my favourite has always been beef rice. But recently I’ve graduated from beef rice and sushi has become my favourite! Mature right? (laugh) I ate sushi in Osaka and it was the best sushi ever. I love to eat mackerel fish and if I have the time, I would like to visit the hot springs and ski areas in Japan. This is what I wanted to do since last time.

D-LITE’s vocal performance. A collection of beautiful ballad songs.

D-LITE has just ended Bigbang’s first world tour and will be having his solo debut in Japan with ‘D’scover’ on the 27th of February.
“After the world tour, I did not rest and I headed straight to Japan! Being busy is something happy. Although there are times I would like to rest, I still persevered on and work hard. I think I will rest when I am above 50 years old (laugh)”

After which D-LITE talked to us about his album happily in fluent Japanese.
“For the album this time, I have begun recording since July~December last year. It was done at the same time as our Bigbang world tour. Initially the album title was to be “DLIVE”, the same as the tour’s name. While I was thinking about another name, I came across Discovery Channel which has some of my favourite programs. This album is a piece of work that has my own colors added into these original songs. It also includes the new meaning of the songs that I have discovered, thus I used the word ‘D’scover”.

Most of the songs in your album are Japan’s highly famous songs. You selected these songs yourself right?
“Firstly, the fame of the song is not included in my consideration. I solely follow and believe my feelings to the songs and that’s how I picked it. I am still not familiar with J-Pop so I started from listening to songs. I searched online or I listen to songs that staff members recommend to me… The completed selection list has about 200 songs or so. In the list, there are songs that I MUST sing, such as the title song, “Singer’s Ballad” by Saito Kazuyoshi. It was a song I heard online by coincidence then I added it in the list. I think this is fate.”

Although you did sing many Japanese songs, but this time round you would have to present the original songs which is something difficult.
“Every song’s pronunciation was difficult. Although I could have just read the lyrics and feel its content, but I will not be able to correctly express the feelings in it… Through listening to the original singer of the original songs and also other songs by the original singer, it helped me grasp the feelings I have to showcase.”

As a singer who knocked down new walls and came up with this album, what did Bigbang members say?
“Previously in the final stop of the world tour in Seoul, I showed them the MV for “Singer’s Ballad” in the changing room. In the MV, there was a rare scene of me playing the piano and as I was too embarrassed, I really wanted to leave the room. They still said that I was too pure (laugh)… I am really too shy so let’s skip this question!”

Then lastly (laugh), please tell us the meaning behind your first solo live.
“For my first solo live, I would like to show my all to everybody. Of course, everybody will think that people has different sides to them. I would like people who don’t know D-LITE to experience my different sides and think “Is D-LITE such a person?” Then they will listen to my cover songs, leave new memories behind and discover new things- which is the highest meaning behind “D’scover”. Also, it is an entirely different stage as compared to Bigbang’s, so please wait for it!”
