Bigbang’s beautiful main vocal D-LITE
First Japanese solo single special episode

D-LITE: “Listening to this song, the impression it gives me is blue and purple. It’s the color of hope and loneliness.”

D-LITE’s first Japanese solo single is a cover of Yutaka Ozaki’s classic song ‘I Love You’. Following his first album “D’scover”, he once again chose to cover J-Pop.
D-LITE: “Even if the world objects to it, describing that as long as two people are in love, they will hold on tightly and believe in love. When composing, I want to emphasize on their courage and strength.”

In the MV, he challenged himself for a kissing scene for the first time! Normally, he doesn’t speak about anything related to the topic of love. We tried to ask him about how he thought about the kiss scene…
D-LITE: “I was too nervous so I couldn’t remember anything (laugh). When listening to this word ‘love’, my initial impression of it was [happiness feeling]. If there is someone you like, everything in this world should be different from what you are seeing right now. I think this is the power of love. But it is fine for me right now even if I don’t have a girlfriend! Actually right now, I am very into LEGO. When I have off days, I can spend my entire day playing LEGO. If I have a girlfriend, I will feel restrained and it might create a problem instead..”

Although he’s 24 years old, D-LITE is still like a teenager. Although the adult love has not begin, he left a message like this for his fans.
“Summer is a season for love! Everybody, please listen to my music and embark on your journey to all types of love! Then, create more new memories!”

“LOVE TALK” with D-LITE
The interview this time is about ‘Love’. D-LITE talked to us a lot about all types of love so we are very satisfied♥

LOVE movie
My favourite love movie is Japan’s “Wish To See You Now”. Firstly, I like Yuko Takeuchi a lot (laugh). The storyline is also good. When it is the rainy season, the grandma who passed away will come back to visit her husband and son. I like the American movie “The Notebook”  too.

Family Love
To me right now, family love is the closest love. When I was in Japan, my mom will text me every day. For example, “have you eaten your rice well?” etc. Although it is a simple text, but after seeing it my heart will feel warm. If I use bread to represent my parents, my mom is a morning bun. She is very soft like a marshmallow. My dad is a French bun. Because the exterior is very strong. Although he is strict about etiquette, but he always has good relationships with his friends. In future when I become a father, I would also like to give my children the type of love my father gives me. A love like French bun, this is my dream.

Love for the fans
During my first solo tour, I had close proximity with the audience and I received much more love from all of them. I will ask fans who came for my tour a few times “how many times has it been?” and will talk to them frequently. If a couple comes, I will ask if they are going to get married soon. After asking them, they told me “Yes, next year!”. When they reply like this I feel happy too. It feels like I am spending time together with all of them every time I have contact with them. To me, this is happiness.

D-LITE (from Bigbang) feat. Hakase Taro “I Love You” will be on sale on 31st July via YGEX. Bigbang has also confirmed their 6 dome tour starting in winter!

D-LITE released “D’scover”, a J-Pop cover album during February this year. As a member of Bigbang, he has many activities. His solo activities was so well that he attracted many people’s attention. He is about to release his latest single ‘I Love You’ on the 31st of July.

Ending your solo tour that visited 20 cities in Japan

TRO (Tower Records Online): How do you feel about the national tour held during March to June?

D-LITE: To me, every performance is a new learning experience. Till now I did not have a solo concert before so it was considered a beginner’s experience. So every time there’s a new performance coming up, I will think of how to produce the concert to make it last for 2-3 hours. I will also think of the best way of how to spend the concert time together with my fans.

TRO: D-LITE and your accompanying band members look very close together.

D-LITE: We have a good feeling within all of us. They are all top-notch musicians in Japan. They will always bring me new suggestions. A singer and a band do not communicate via talking, but it is how they communicate on stage with their chemistry. When singing on stage, when my voice feels dangerous or when I feel good, I will look towards the band members. So during performing, they can play the instruments and do some interactions at the same time.

TRO: Sasaji Masanori will play and give you suggestions at the same time (laugh).

D-LITE: Yes yes (laugh).Sasaji Masanori, drummer Muraishi Masayuki and everybody else will combine performance and accompaniment together, it will give me lots of support and strength. Although on stage, our support for each other is not via speaking, but to me, it is already a huge support.

TRO: In “D’scover”, the songs are the same, we have to listen to it live to feel more power. What about ‘Joyful’?

D-LITE: I enjoy myself a lot when singing ‘Joyful’ (laugh). I will see how the fans on the day responds to decide how to perform ‘Joyful’ during the concert. There is a hip-hop version, ballad version etc… (laugh). Also, although this song is not in the album, “未来预想图Ⅱ”, I had the deepest impression when singing this song. During the chorus, fans will sing together with me, when listening to that on stage, it is the happiest feeling. Also, during the latter part of the song, everybody will still sing along with me, in the entire venue, me, everybody else and the band members are all integrated as one. It feels different.

TRO: Your solo tour was a national tour in 20 cities in Japan which was a scale never seen before.

D-LITE: Every performance left me deep impressions and beautiful memories.

TRO: Did you eat all the delicacies in the different cities?

D-LITE: Of course! This is also very important. The city that I was most touched for was Sapporo. Sapporo is really too perfect. I love seafood, especially sea urchin. I went to Sapporo to eat sea urchin rice, pork rice, chicken meat…. the vegetables and lamb is also delicious…… In Sapporo I ate so many food of different varieties. Everything was so good (laugh). Bigbang’s upcoming dome concert will also be at Sapporo Dome, so I am anticipating it. I heard that when skiing in Sapporo, the snow is so fluffy that it wouldn't hurt even you fall. So if I have a 1 day vacation, I will go and try it.

Covering the pearl “I Love You”

D-LITE

Strongly attracted to the love and courage by the original song

Following my cover album, I am now producing a solo single

This year February, Bigbang’s main vocal D-LITE had his Japanese solo debut with his J-Pop cover album “D’scover”. He performed the gem of J-Pop using an abundant of feelings which mesmerized the Japanese listeners. His first solo single will also be challenging another cover. He will be covering Yutaka Ozaki’s ‘I Love You’ and it allows listeners to listen to a grand re-arrangement of the song and his powerful vocals.

D-LITE: “I Love You is also very famous in Korea, it is a song I’ve liked since the past. In Korea it was covered by a senior artist and although after covering it, the lyrics meaning changed, but the original tune still portrays the love between two people. No matter what happens we will still continue this love, - I was attracted to this so I wanted to emphasize on that point."

D-LITE who loves the lyrics especially. If he is also in such a situation, is he also able to continue on loving…

D-LITE: “This… I don’t have confidence (laugh). However if I really love the opposite, I think I can do it!”

For this song, Seiji Kameda is also the producer for it just like for “D’scover”. He will also be collaborating with world renowned violinist Hakase Taro. The idea D-LITE has for this song will come to life by this two top artists.

D-LITE: “Seiji Kameda has always been happy and energetic. He clearly understands what I want and he can portray that out using music. It’s the same as ‘I Love You’, I only told him “I am attracted to the love and courage between the two and I want to emphasize that” and “We can add my colors in starting from the second verse, I would like to add more power.” Just like this, he is able to show it out using music. Although it is my first time meeting Hakase Taro, but I have also felt the power behind the color of the violin. It is both strong and gentle, there is hope in sadness and when listening to that, I know clearly how I have to sing this song.”

From the end of March for about three months, you had your first solo tour. Although it was a success in all 20 cities and 26 venues, but we heard that this is also thanks to the support of the people around you.

D-LITE: “I received energy from my band members and thanks to that, I am able to survive it and I feel happy too. The same with others, for my tour, we have mobilized about more than a 100 staff. Looking at such a scene, even if I have a bad condition, I will still be filled with energy… For this tour, I understand how all of us combined as one. Of course the fans have to be included. I prepared 50% for this tour and the other 50% is completed by the audience that day. Thanks to everybody who combined as one for the tour, all 26 performances have 26 different lives, I am really happy.”

His love for live and fans can be seen in some areas.

D-LITE: “The idea of having a VTR before encore was by me. I feel that we can’t allow the fans to wait for a few minutes before encore… So I was thinking how I could let them enjoy that few minutes, thus I created an interesting VTR (laugh).”

Yours was a nationwide tour, which city gave you the deepest impression?

D-LITE: "If you’re speaking about live I am unable to choose. My answer is everywhere! For food, it is Sapporo. I love to eat sea urchin and seafood so I ate a lot of it. The Genghis Khan barbeque lamb and pork rice is also good. Sapporo is really heaven (laugh)."

Starting from November you will have a 6 dome tour as Bigbang.

D-LITE: "Being able to hold a live concert at such a large venue is all thanks to our fans. I will prepare with all my heart!"

I Love XXX

Following the release of ‘I Love You’, I will answer questions regarding members, music etc.

Do you love SWEET?

D-LITE: I don’t like the candy type of sweet. But I like the fruits type of sweetness. For fruits, I like everything. During summer I love to eat watermelon and honeydew. For winter, it would be citrus.

I love G-DRAGON

D-LITE: I think it is so good that he is the leader of Bigbang. When playing together he will play wholeheartedly. When working or recording, he will be very strict. It is good that he always has an objective opinion!

Do you love ANIMAL?

D-LITE: I like to see animals… But I won’t touch it (laugh). Because I cannot communicate with animals so I am not good at getting along with them. When I tell the animal not to come over he will still come over (laugh). It’s the same reason for insects or ghosts because I am not good at handling them..

I love V.I

D-LITE: He is always cheerful and confident and I envy that point (laugh). Because I am a worry wart and also not confident, so I always have lots of trouble. But when looking at V.I’s optimism, I feel like I have to work harder too.

Do you love CAFé?

D-LITE: I don’t drink coffee so I don’t really go to cafés. Even if I visit sometimes I will only order 100% pure fruit juice. Especially orange or tomato juice. I don’t usually drink from the can, I drink more of water and tea.

I love SOL

D-LITE: I can always talk deep topics with him, I feel like he’s like my elder brother. Whenever I have troubles I can discuss it with SOL. He is a warm, broad-minded and awesome person.

I love FASHION

D-LITE: For clothes I like outfits that I wear for work outs, something easy to wear. But the appearance is also important, so I will always look at the comfort and degree of suaveness it brings.

I love TOP

D-LITE: I don’t really like TOP san… just joking (laugh). He is the eldest person but I can still joke with him informally. He has a very good character and I think he is the one best at understanding V.I and I, the maknae line.

I love MUSIC

D-LITE: Recently I have been listening to Alicia Keys and George Bensen. I already liked listening to music in the 70s and 80s, and I have been listening to it frequently. Of course, to learn, I have been listening to current pop music as well.

Q: What must people say to make D-LITE happy?

A: Eh.. Sexy and erotic (laugh). In the future please tell me I am “sexy and erotic” (laugh).

Q: What do you think is the biggest charm that results in all your fans love? Voice, smile, body, gentleness.. I feel like there’s a lot but I hope D-LITE can tell me what you think is your biggest charm.

A: I think it is my small eyes and big nose (laugh). Eh, I don’t know, I would ask all of you instead!

Q: Please tell us how the members feel after listening to ‘I Love You’.

A: G-DRAGON said “not bad, your singing has improved” (laugh).

Q: Your Japanese is good, please tell me what is your favourite Japanese word.

A: “Sensitive”. I noted it down yesterday. The Korean word for sensitive is “mingamu” which I feel is quite similar (laugh). I like “strangely” as well. Although I don’t know why, but I remember it after asking once. But I didn't really have the chance to use it (laugh).

Q: What do you see in girls?

A: The smiles and how they work hard for their own jobs. I feel that it looks very suave.

Q: Previously I saw D-LITE’s live performance and the live voice really gave me goosebumps. I listened till I was mesmerized, I have stopped waving my glowstick and when the song ended, I couldn't do anything else but sigh. Does D-LITE have this kind of reaction to any artists songs?

A: Yes, there are many. I guess it is because the message of the singer is being spread to oneself which results into such a reaction. For the most recent one, it is when attending an event by a Japanese television program. I was touched by the voice of Ayaka.

Q: When singing to D-LITE’s songs, what do I have to watch out for in order to sing as gentle like D-LITE? ^^

A: I feel that this is irregardless of your singing capabilities. No matter how long you have practised for or whether you have sang before, it doesn't matter. What matters is how serious you are, then collecting all your memories from before and singing it out. Amongst my friends, there are some who are not good at singing yet have a good vocal to touch people hearts. I think this is because he has seriously considered why he wants to sing.

Q: The always happy and cheerful D-LITE must also had some times where you felt defeated and depressed. How would you cheer yourself up then?

A: Then I will be alone. I will do sports, then soak in a bathtub, then my mood will get comfortable and better.

– No particular meaning but it was Kangdaepo
