No words are needed for their existence, Bigbang.
If I can sing, so can everybody.
I still think this way even up till now.
If I can sing, so can everybody.
I still think this way even up till now.
MINI: What is the main point in ensuring that your
condition is good when singing?
D-LITE: During “D’scover”, it is partly due to the song
lyrics that I like for the songs, but it is not just decided this way, I also
have to look at the entire song’s vibe. However, when I listen to Hakase Taro’s
violin melody, my condition will be very good. It is as if we are performing a
duet.
MINI: Why do you like singing so much?
D-LITE: Other than music, I can’t think of anything that I
can do. Thus, I feel very happy when my music is being accepted and loved by
everyone. I am not rich when I am young and I do not have any special skills.
The me back then worked hard and the result is being able to sing. I believe
that everybody can do it as well and I still think this way even up till now.
MINI: Is D-LITE’s family good at singing as well?
D-LITE: Ah~, their reaction is good (laugh). When I was
young we went to noraebang frequently but now because my family and I are quite
busy so we didn't go anymore.
MINI: The music you listen frequently to lately.
D-LITE: Coldplay and Muse, Green Day as well. I listen to
Rock too. When travelling around I will lower my volume (laugh)
D-LITE, which choice?!
Q: If you are going shopping on your first date, what will
you do if the clothes your girlfriend tries on is not suitable?
A. Tell her directly that it does not suit her. B. Say it
fits her well
D-LITE: (laugh) During the first date I won’t say anything,
but after a few dates I will say “It seems like there’s something wrong
somewhere?”
Q: Do you have any problems recently because you are so
popular?
A. Yes. B. No
D-LITE: Ah~ nope… I’m still far from that.
Q: When you are in a relationship will you tell your
girlfriend “I Love You” everyday?
A. Yes. B. No
D-LITE: No, I am too shy. However if she wants me to say it
(thinking for a moment), I will say “I am interested” (laugh)
Q: Marriage and dating are two different things!
A. Yes. B. No
D-LITE: No, without a dating period, there won’t be
marriage too isn't it. Marriage? I do not consider it yet but I think
that it would be good to get married after being in a relationship for three
years!
Q: Which type of lady will you choose?
A. A lady who likes the same taste in jokes as you. B. A
lady who has the same taste in food as you.
D-LITE: A! If two people in love eats together, everything
will be delicious right? But not for jokes. Even if the food she cooks is not
nice, she can make it 50 times but I will still eat it although there might be
leftovers. Ah, I think 5 times is enough (laugh)
Q: Which type of lady will make your heart touched?
A. Lady who tries to prevent herself from sleeping. B. Lady
who tries to prevent her tears from falling.
D-LITE: B. Don’t you think it is good, to see the strong
side. If such a person appears, I will first speak of some happy matters, and
then when she cools down I will listen to her reasons. I love listening to
people talk.
Q: What type of food do you eat for breakfast?
A. Bread. B. Rice
D-LITE: Rice. I don’t really eat bread, this morning I ate
beef rice!

My first confession has to be kept for my future marriage partner
First solo single, beautiful ballad poetry
Yutaka Ozaki’s ‘I Love You’ has been
covered in Korea before as well. It is very popular and it is a song that I
like and also very familiar with since my junior high school days. As it’s a
famous song, when I got invited to cover this song, compared to my uneasiness
and pressure, I feel happier. Before recording, I will listen to the song first
then combine my voice with the song in my brain. Normally I am always very calm
before recording but this time round, I feel slightly confused. However, when
in the studio recording with Hakase Taro, when I heard his violin melody, my
mind cleared and I received courage from there. In such a short time, one take
was ok. I only met with Hakase Taro once and I find him to be a cheerful and
interesting person. Also, the producer Seiji Kameda is a funny person too so I
was able to relax and enjoy and also focus on my work. This is a disc that I
can complete thanks to the help of many people. Although I did try listening to
it once again, but there are so many cover version of ‘I Love You’ everywhere.
Yutaka Ozaki’s original version ranks first, so doesn’t the second ranking
belongs to me? (laugh) I still have confidence!
The recording was done in Japan and the MV was filmed in Korea. I had my first
kiss scene for this MV. But the kiss scene was not requested by me so
everybody, please do not misunderstand me. I am very satisfied that this piece
of work can be completed perfectly (both MV and song) but I do not wish for my
family, Bigbang members or anybody to see that kiss scene, very shy.. very shy
(laugh) Although I was very nervous for my first kiss scene, I still had to
enjoy doing it. I completed filming with only very few NGs. Now that I think
back, it’s good if I had NGs for kiss scenes right?! I am just joking. At that
time, my mind was really empty and I couldn't think of anything else.
Although I am singing this song, but the truth is, I do not have experience
confessing my love to others. Thus, my first time saying ‘I Love You’ will be
reserved for the girl who will be marrying me in future. Ah, I am sweating now
(laugh) For me, rather than using a direct method, I would rather have people
using an awesome method to confess their love to me. The type of girls I like
are girls who work really hard because I think it is handsome and sexy.
Japanese girls give me the vibe that they are gentle, have beautiful smiles and
very charming. Bigbang’s dome tour will begin in November so I will be able to
enjoy such smiles again.
In future, let us use my ‘I Love You’ to create new memories together. When
listening to the song, let us find out the charm of the song and reminisce
about the past. Right now I am also frequently listening to BOYZ II MEN songs
and it allows me to think back to my trainee days. When listening to Bigbang’s
album, I will then think about the world tour. So, I would really like to sing
songs that allows others to look back to their memories.

‘I Love You’
First Japanese solo album “D’scover” is so popular
after release that it has cemented Bigbang’s D-LITE’s status as a solo singer.
His new single ‘I Love You’ is a cover of Yutaka Ozaki’s classic song and
D-LITE’s collaboration with Hakase Taro has made this song a piece of
outstanding work!
Him who sings such intense love song, you must be
interested to know about his love story.
Surprisingly, he has some special habits?! If you
would like to discover more, continue reading this interview.
“If I have somebody I like in future, I
have to confess properly because I have already grown up (laugh)”
‘I Love You’ is a classic Japanese ballad song.
D-LITE has also heard about this song even before he came to Japan.
“Yes. There is a Korean version of this
song. When I heard it the first time during high school, I thought that it was
“not bad”. This time, I am very honored for being able to cover this song and
also use this song as the title track for UULA’s TV series ‘I Love You’. At the
start, I first heard about Hakase Taro’s violin performance before proceeding
on with the recording. With Hakase Taro’s violin colors combined together with
my memories of the first time I heard this song, I was able to sing smoothly
based on my feelings.”
D-LITE used his overpowering song skills and warm
passion to complete this song. His dramatic PV like those in the movies is also
awesome, not forgetting the kiss scene that made viewers hearts skip a beat.
“I was very nervous for my first kiss
scene. Before filming, I think I brushed my teeth once every 5 minutes (laugh).
However the atmosphere was good and the end product was very satisfying.”
I guess this is a song that is intense and filled
with passion. Does D-LITE has such an intense love before?
“Although there is significance to this
song, I do not have such prior experience (laugh). Previously, I am the type
who will put my whole self into the relationship, but if I were to date now, I
do not have the confidence that I am able to balance my work-life relationship.
Of course, both parties jobs are important and also, I don’t like to feel restrained.”
You dislike it when you are being restrained.
However, girls usually care a lot about what’s going on in the boys life
(laugh). D-LITE, what’s your boundary regarding being restrained by your
girlfriend?
“This is a difficult question…
basically I will listen to whatever my girlfriend says, but too many boundaries
and stubbornness will become an obstacle regarding my work and that will not be
good. But if I have a girlfriend I will definitely meet up with her during my
off days. Compared to my own rest time, my girlfriend is priority!!”
Ideal type. If you have a girlfriend, do you have
any requirements about her dressing?
“(After looking at ViVi) For my
girlfriend, mini-skirts are not allowed because I will be worried (laugh). I
don’t really like it if she reveals her belly button too.. I still prefer
one-piece clothing. The end of the one-piece clothing will be flowing with the
wind and it gives off a pure image which I feel is not bad. Also… I have an
Achilles addiction. To be more specific, I like to look at clean Achilles. But
I definitely do not inspect the females Achilles upon looking at them (laugh),
if I see it occasionally I will give it a good inspection (laugh)”
That is so surprising! Starting from now girls
will have to take good care of their Achilles heel (laugh). Then, how will you
continue to contact the girl you like upon meeting them?
“Up till now I have not done any
confession yet. Because I do not have courage. Before confession I will need
lots of hard work and I cannot let the other party discover what I want to do
(laugh). Because, if the confession fails, I might not be able to see her ever…
My eyes are small so even if I keep looking at the girl I like I will not get
discovered (laugh). I can also pretend I am sleeping and observe people, this
is my special skill (laugh). However, if I meet someone I like in future, I
would like to do a proper confession, because I am an adult (laugh)”
Lastly, please leave a message for ViVi readers!
“After keeping in touch with ViVi for
some time, they do have a large amount of information and many interesting
things which I like. After listening to ‘I Love You’, I hope all of you will be
able to fall in love wholeheartedly!”

[Interview] Daesung @ SPRING Magazine
:: 22 Aug 2013
A clear make-up free face is only limited to SPRING GIRL! (SPRING’s readers)
Bigbang’s vocal
D-LITE who has been highly active on the international stage (due to Alive
World Tour) has finally appeared on SPRING for the first time! We will be
following him on his make-up free face in the office!
01. Before
filming, D-LITE was looking into the office via the balcony. His casual
expression is super cute!
02. A last
minute check on his hairstyle. Blue is the latest hair color for this new song.
03. He seems
to be moving to the office quite happily. I really want to know what’s going on
in his mind!
04. Checking
out his outfit. The theme this time is to show a little maturity.
05. 06. 07. While
waiting, he is resting in a corner of the office. He seems to be drinking
vitamin water very regularly. His look while drinking water is only available
in SPRING!
09. 10. We~ We are
filming now! His natural pose is also very classy!
11. Giving the
last stare!
He tenderly
performed the feelings of two people being in a forbidden love and it moved
listeners.
This time,
D-LITE let us see how he looked like with a make-up free face. D-LITE who
usually gets along well with his D-LITE team, what do you actually talk to them
about?
“We are just
talking nonsense really (laugh). Yesterday after watching a television program,
then we were talking about what we had for dinner etc. I just told them that I
want to eat salad for tonight’s dinner. Everybody seemed to be losing weight
(laugh). If I feel inadequate at any point of time, the next morning I will
wake up and think, “I survived yesterday, it was good!” then my mood will be
better.”
Your outfit and
hairstyle seems to be determined by everybody else.
“At that point of
time, it was decided that we will combine all activities and let the stylist
and hairdresser decide the style I would have. For this re-arrangement, I felt
that the song gave people the impression of the colors of cyan and purple so my
hairdresser added blue into my hair. As for my outfit, I wanted something that
gives off a mature vibe but also not too flamboyant.”
For your Japanese
single this time, you covered Yutaka Ozaki’s ‘I Love You’, this song represents
what the guy is saying.
“It is also a very
famous song in Korea too. When I was in high school, it was covered by POSITION
seniors. Although the content of the lyrics is slightly different, but the
melody was still very warm and it’s a song that I like very much. After
listening to the original song I fell in love with ‘I Love You’ more. Then I
was thinking when I could officially try and challenge this song.”
This time, you
re-arranged the song and you used Japanese to describe a contradicting love
story.
“Even if other
people object to it, we must still have courage to proceed on for this love
between two of us. I was so attracted to this idea, this thought. For me… I
don’t think I can love like this. I do not have the confidence (laugh).
However, it is fine to experience it via singing.”
Seiji Kameda is
your appointed producer and this song also included world renowned violinist
Hakase Taro.
“Seiji Kameda wanted
to emphasize on the lines of “Bravely walking through for the love that belongs
to only both of us”. Also, there isn't only strength but also
weakness. Although lonely but also not lonely, although weak but also not weak.
It has emphasized on the opposites of both traits. Hakase Taro’s violin color
is warm however it is not weak. Although it is gentle, yet you can still listen
to the intense sound in it. Ah ah, I think it feels alright, able to speak
through music, I am so happy! I am very satisfied!”
Other than
that, in the MV, you have also challenged a kiss scene under the rain.
“Kiss scene oh… it
is, already very good (laugh). The truth is, that MV has a storyline to it. It
is talking about the love I have with my girlfriend however we have encountered
objections by people around us. We do not know where we can escape to as my
girlfriend who is sick has limited days left. Although my lover and I both
understand that, I think that I will feel more upset when I am unable to look
at her face. So, even if the times we had together in future is limited and my
lover is about to be disappear, I will still love her very much. About the
wedding dress.. As we do not have money, so I had to become a thief (laugh),
that’s a little problem right.”
This is really
the first song which has such a beautiful love story, lastly I would like to
hear D-LITE’s favorite type of girls.
“Although I
changed a lot (laugh), but now I like it when I am able to relax even when I am
with my partner. Then, it’s best if both of us could give each other
inspiration. About their appearance, they must have a beautiful smile. It may
not necessarily be a beauty, age does not matter too. The smile should be
released by the inner heart which contains warmth. If I see smiles like this I will
go “Ahh!!!” (laugh)”

[Interview] Daesung @ What's In
:: 12 Aug 2013
Bringing out the beautiful ballad songs heart
D-LITE whom enjoys the “heart of the song” has covered
Japan’s classic song, Yutaka Ozaki’s ‘I Love You’. He has listened to many
different covers of the song by different artists and he is now pursuing
something that has his character, not forgetting to include the original song’s
colors and also making the song more perfect by adding in Hakase Taro’s violin
melody. This is a song that makes people intoxicated.
WHAT’S IN (WI): Firstly, can you please tell us about your
solo concert that was held from March to June?
D-LITE: Ok. It was my first solo concert so every
performance is a good practice session for me. It is my first time completing a
2-3 hours concert solely by myself so I had to consider wisely how I am going
to spend my energy throughout the concert.
WI: Nervous?
D-LITE: I was definitely nervous at the start, but with the
help of my band and staff members, when I stand on stage to look at the
audience, all my nervousness has been forgotten. I was able to sing and enjoy
the stage together with my fans. I then slowly integrated into this atmosphere
and became a part of it.
WI: For your single ‘I Love You’ this time round, you
included the live performances of the 31st March concert at Budokan. How did
you feel when listening to it by yourself?
D-LITE: When I listen back to my live performances, I feel
so embarrassed (laugh) It seems like I always make mistakes… However, the 3
songs in the single, “Wings”, “Try Smiling” and “Look At Me Gwisoon” made the
atmosphere even hotter during the concert.
WI: Oh oh, sometimes I feel that you have a very good stage
presence. During your concert, what do you do in your breakroom backstage?
D-LITE: Um… Eating, singing some songs and listen to music
etc.
WI: You were also listening to music today in the dressing
room~
D-LITE: Yes, today I was listening to 80s-90s songs from
Korea.
WI: Listening to music on the year when you were born?
(D-LITE is born in 1989)
D-LITE: Yes. When listening to songs from that era, it
seems like I am being born again (laugh) However, I really clearly remember the
songs I listened to during my kindergarten days. I miss it.
WI: Did you start your dreams of becoming a singer when you
were in nursery?
D-LITE: No. At that time I wanted to be a baseball player
as good as Bak Chonho who went to joined the American Major League Baseball, it
is very very famous!!! Boys back then all dreamt of becoming baseball players.
I also had posters in my room. I still like baseball now but I just watch it
(laugh)
WI: (laugh) let’s talk about ‘I Love You’ now. This song
was released in the 80s. How old were you when you first listened to it?
D-LITE: It was during my high school days. The first time I
heard it was the Korean version. It was covered by POSITION sunbaenims, this
song was very popular in Korea back then. I personally like it very much too.
When having activities in Japan with Bigbang, I heard Yutaka Ozaki’s original
version and I felt that it is entirely different from POSITION’s cover. The
original version is very good!
WI: Undeniably, this song is very famous in Japan and also
many artists have covered it.
D-LITE: Ah yes. When preparing for this single, I listened
to many different cover versions. Ayaka’s version, Utada Hikaru version and
also Kobukuro version etc. True enough, when they cover the song it cannot be
similar to the original version, they have to create their own path.
WI: When creating ‘I Love You’, you made use of D-LITE’s
personality.
D-LITE: At the beginning I felt really worried. Even up
till now when I sing in Japanese, I feel that it is incompatible. I thought
about how I could make Japanese receive the message that I want to convey.
However, ‘I Love You’ is a song I like personally and with the help of Seiji
Kameda and Hakase Taro, I am able to pick up my confidence!
WI: Seiji Kameda has also helped produce “D’scover”, how
did he help you this time?
D-LITE: When re-arranging the song, I will firstly tell
Seiji Kameda what message I want to convey. For ‘I Love You’, the melody is
strong and full of courage. Even when the world objects, both of them will
still love each other without caring about the world – It’s something that’s
filled with courage. I wanted to show this message. Seiji Kameda trusted me
100% as well. In truth, he managed to produce an excellent melody.
WI: It really has the image of D-LITE. In ‘I Love You’
lyrics, which left the deepest impression on you?
D-LITE: This is hard to remember. During “D’scover”, it was
all cover songs so I said things like “I like this lyrics”. But for “I Love
You’, this song has a very good concept. For example, “both of them are like
abandoned cats” etc.. I like cats too (laugh)
WI: Hahahaha, so it’s a common point (laugh)
D-LITE: When singing, I wanted to add a sound of “meow” in
the song but this will spoil the entire song’s mood so I can’t do it (laugh). I
was just joking but in any case, I put my whole self into the song too.
Although I do not have such experience like the song says, but I myself can
also feel that this is a great love.
WI: About your pitch, have you ever made different
mistakes?
D-LITE: I am not sure about the proper way to sing. I was
very confused during recording as well so I used up much time! I don’t usually
think a lot when singing but I do think a lot before recording.
WI: You said you were fully prepared to ensure that your
performance will be more perfect.
D-LITE: Even if I listened to it many times and it was ok,
it is still important to have instruments to help understand the feeling. It
has to be the same feeling when I sing.
WI: Hakase Taro’s violin has such a huge effect.
D-LITE: Yes. Before meeting him, I thought he was a scary
person because he was a world class violinist so I thought he must be strict. I
kept thinking what would happen if I wasn't good enough. However he
is entirely different. No matter how I see, he is still a very interesting
person who is good at creating small happy moments! His violin performance is
so good I am speechless. I am super touched. Thanks to Hakase Taro’s violin, it
made my voice sound clearer as well.
WI: Mm~ I too felt that it helped bring the performance of
the song up another notch.
D-LITE: Ah? Really?! Thank you. I think that my solo tour
has also helped me improve. During the concerts, although I always have much
worries, but at the same time, it has helped me discover the way to enjoy
singing.
WI: Music Video is also awesome. It’s very romantic but sad
as well.
D-LITE: I have spoken quite a lot to the supervisor about
the MV. In my heart I wanted the MV to have a color scheme of cyanine and
purple. Then, I wanted to showcase a sense of loneliness and also parts where
the main actor is strong and not weak.
WI: It is really important to express your own opinions.
D-LITE: That’s right. Without this, people will think that
I am not serious. Then, filming will become a huge issue. In Korea, even though
I acted in television dramas and musicals, but it has been very long already.
However, I feel that it’s really sweet this time. In group activities, I had
more images of my tongue sticking out and comical performances and actions
(laugh)
WI: Being able to see a side of D-LITE that is rarely seen,
this is the charm of solo activities. (laugh) your kiss scene is really good
(laugh)
D-LITE: Ah, that’s good. (laugh) there wasn’t much NGs,
which was a pity. I wanted to do it another 10 times (laugh). There were a few
scenes where I was really embarrassed of my own acting so it was deleted. That
can’t be seen by anybody!!!
WI: Don’t tell me, you are actually a very shy person.
D-LITE: Yes~. I am a little introverted.
WI: While talking throughout, I don’t feel that way though.
D-LITE: When working, I will change so much I scare myself
too. For example, if I don’t talk when I attend variety programs, wouldn’t I
not appear on TV at all? At this time, cheerful D-LITE will appear (laugh)
However, deep down I still feel that I am a shy person.
WI: However, when you stand on stage to perform, you are
very confident of yourself.
D-LITE: Due to a character like mine, I am not 100%
confident. As I mentioned just now, I worry about a lot of things. However
because of this, every day I will think a lot and I have to work hard. When
being able to do all these, I will be satisfied.
WI: Oh I see.
D-LITE: I think God gave me this personality that doesn’t
include confidence. If not for this character, I will become more relaxed and I
may not work that hard too.
WI: I think what you are thinking now is good. Any dreams
about your solo activities in future?
D-LITE: Although ‘I Love You’ and the songs in “D’scover”
is similar, they are all songs that I like and songs that I always wanted to
try. I hope people who listen to my music will spend their time creating many
different memories while listening. I hope they will say things like “I did
this today” or “I spent a beautiful time today”.
WI: It’s not just a one-sided performance but using music
to communicate.
D-LITE: Yes. I performed ‘I Love You’ during the opening
Message Event (“THE MUSIC DAY”) and it was great. Even though there are many
people who didn't know me, but after this song, they were able to
blend into the atmosphere.
WI: I am anticipating it right now! Lastly, I have a few
personal questions. It’s summer, any places you would to travel for a visit?
D-LITE: Summer oh, I don’t really like it (laugh). It’s hot
and I perspire a lot. Without watermelons, I think summer is pointless. This is
just my thinking (laugh)
WI: You really like watermelons (laugh)
D-LITE: Yes…… other than this…….. Firstly, I don’t really
know how to swim, but I am practising it recently and I can swim
about 25m.
WI: Compared to going out to play, you prefer staying at
home?
D-LITE: Ah, yes that’s right! Time spent at home is the
fastest. I watch movies at home, watching Korean variety shows and suddenly
“Ahhh, a day has gone passed” (laugh)
WI: Even when you are in Tokyo, you don’t really go out?
D-LITE: Ah, not really. I also like to go out for dinner
with everybody, then go to something like “FrancFranc”…
WI: Eating and visiting a furniture store. Like a lady.
D-LITE: No! I’m a man! (laugh)

D-LITE, who has a gentle, controlled voice husky voice which makes people feel its tremor. Using such a voice to perform songs, even if it’s a cover song, the voice will stay etched deeply into the listener’s memory. He who has such a charm, blends his own colors into the song, using an extraordinary attractiveness to conquer his listeners. At the same time, irregardless of Inkigayo or talk shows, D-LITE will always have his smile on his face, bringing up the atmosphere around him and forever portraying a role that makes people happy. How is the real D-LITE like….
PERSON: Your hair color is no longer blondish gold!
D-LITE: When listening to the re-arranged ‘I Love You’, the hair color that came to my mind was either blue or purple. As a part of performing the song, my hair color had to be changed too. When I just dyed it, the color was brighter. As the color has faded, it resulted into such hair color (laugh).
PERSON: How did you feel when you heard that you were going to cover ‘I Love You’?
D-LITE: Yutaka Ozaki is a legendary musician in Japan. Even in Korea, ‘I Love You’ is a golden song. When I was in junior high school, I listened to POSITION sunbaenim’s cover of ‘I Love You’ and from then onwards, I like this song very much. Now that I have to cover this song, I feel happy and worried at the same time. This song has been covered many times in Japan as well, am I able to sing it well? However, as this is an outstanding song, it has evoked my desire to challenge it.
PERSON: I heard that before you cover a song, you will read the lyrics thoroughly to fully grasp the feelings in the song. What can you feel from this song?
D-LITE: I like the entire content of the song lyrics very much; it’s up till the extent that I like each word and each sentence. I have also communicated with Seiji Kameda who helped me re-arrange the song. I told him that I want to emphasize on the courage within the two lovers that even if they were being objected by the world, their love will still go on strongly.
PERSON: Was it tough during recording sessions?
D-LITE: No. The production this time was very smooth. As I already had a very clear impression of this song before, the difficult part was only how NOT to sing it like the original way. Also, I am very honored of being able to have Hakase Taro’s violin performance incorporated into this song because thanks to the violin melody, the clarity of the song is very distinct and I was able to naturally immerse myself into the atmosphere and perform. I did not take much time at all.
PERSON: In reality how long did you take?
D-LITE: About 3 hours or so. Previously when doing “D’scover”, each song took me about 6 to 8 hours. This time round, I really have to thank Hakase Taro and Seiji Kameda.
PERSON: Have you ever personally interacted with Hakase Taro?
D-LITE: As both of us are quite busy, we did not really sit down and talk. However, I feel that we have a deeper interaction between both of us. Although we did not communicate via talking, I was able to feel what Hakase Taro was trying to tell me via his violin melody and this had also led me to completing the whole song performance. In conclusion, ‘I Love You’ is a song by me, Hakase Taro and Seiji Kameda.
PERSON: The next day you went back to Korea to film the PV right?
D-LITE: Yes, it’s a PV with a story plot about romantic love oh.
PERSON: How did you feel about the whole process?
D-LITE: Oh……. I still feel shy
PERSON: Is that because of your first kiss scene?
D-LITE: All that’s left in my memory about the PV is the kiss scene (laugh). I am obviously joking. Acting out a love story is a first for me, so I feel really embarrassed. However, the whole story plot and the song matches perfectly well.
PERSON: It’s a PV that makes people feel gentle.
D-LITE: When I was watching the PV, I too felt the gentleness, the grievances and constrained feeling in it. These feelings have been showcased right up to its detail.
PERSON: Any little stories to share about your filming process?
D-LITE: As I was really nervous about the kiss scene, I done many preparations beforehand before I dared to film it.
PERSON: What are the preparations you have done exactly?
D-LITE: I had to prepare my heart for it and also to brush my teeth (laugh). There wasn’t a single NG during filming… I was a little disappointed (laugh)
PERSON: (laugh) speaking of which, you started your Japan solo activities since last year and your solo tour visiting 20 cities in Japan has just ended.
D-LITE: It’s a tour that I will never forget ever. I learnt so much during the whole process and all the times with my fans has also become my valuable experience. I hope in future, regardless of Bigbang’s or my solo activities, those memories and experiences will be able to put to good use.
PERSON: You did not feel this way in group activities but rather in your solo activities is that right?
D-LITE: Firstly, this is my first time having to hold a concert for 3 hours all by myself. From the concept of the concert, I have already met with countless troubles. Thus, I decided to design the stage with the fans of the concert days. I did my best to reach perfection, and then I will follow whatever that comes naturally and create a stage where it will become memories for me and the fans only. What’s different from other live is that, even the MC will be speaking to the audience just like how bosses speak to guests. I tried speaking to them casually and we talked about fashion and when there are couples, I will also congratulate them and ask if they are going to get married soon (laugh)
PERSON: As you toured the entire nation, which city left you the deepest impression?
D-LITE: I was shocked by the taste of the food in Sapporo. Even the air smelt so sweet. As I originally liked seafood, I ate lots of sea urchins. The fried chicken is good too, once I bite it I feel like “Sapporo is really beautiful”.
PERSON: Have you eaten the other specialties of each city that you visited?
D-LITE: Yes I did. I think that Nagasaki’s udon dish is very interesting. But because the noodles are so chewy it felt like mochi. I will then think of eating it until my whole stomach is full of it, incredible right? (laugh)
PERSON: I heard that you were still actively training your muscles in Japan, did you have a good work out?
D-LITE: Muscle training is a must every day. In Japan, once I have time I will go to the hotel’s gym. Normally I will also do light exercise for about 10-20 minutes in the room.
PERSON: Why do you want to work out?
D-LITE: I don’t really know why, but I just keep doing it….. Sometimes when I am working out I will think “why am I running now?”, “how did I first started it?” or questions like this (laugh) I guess this is because of my trainee times where exercising was part of the daily routine. Right now, it has become something like a habit which I will do every day. It is not to practice until I have defined abs but rather, my goal is to “Look slimmer while wearing clothes, having meat when removing clothes”.
PERSON: You do understand Japanese well (laugh) Now, can you talk about your goal in future for solo activities?
D-LITE: I would like to charge forward with my fans. Just like friends, no matter when it is I wish they were near to me, we will create memories belonging to both of us. It will be great if I can build such a relationship with my fans!
PERSON: While your solo activities are continuing, Bigbang tour will commence soon in Japan.
D-LITE: In the first half of the year, all of us are busy with our solo activities so the time spent together as 5 is very little. It seems like it’s our growing period now. I believe when we put all these experiences together, we can become a better and newer Bigbang. Thus, I am also anticipating the dome tour.
PERSON: You had a world tour last year as well; I guess all of you must have spent more time together then.
D-LITE: Yes. Last year “thanks” to the world tour, all of us were stuck together for a year. This year “thanks” to our solo activities, all of us have more personal space now (laugh)
PERSON: Your grasp of Japanese language is really good (laugh)
D-LITE: The truth is, I am really happy when all 5 of us are together.
PERSON: It has been 7 years since Bigbang’s debut. You guys have experienced countless activities and encounters. Are there any changes in Bigbang’s relationship?
D-LITE: In these few years, we have experienced both bad and good. It’s because of these experiences that Bigbang is able to be more harmonious and united. Although it’s something you can’t see but the truth is that all of us has become as one. At my most difficult times, it’s also thanks to the members that I am able to walk out of it; I think all of you feel this way too. Right now, although we don’t say it out, however we have already reached the point where as long as we look at each other, we will be able to understand one another. Ah, maybe not yet (laugh) However, teamwork like this is really good.
PERSON: In D-LITE’s eyes, what type of people are Bigbang members like?
D-LITE: G-Dragon is an outstanding leader and when he is working, he puts in 100% focus. To ensure that Bigbang produces better quality works, he is also strict on us. However when we go out to play in normal days, he is just like a normal elder brother, I love him a lot. V.I is the maknae so he loves to do aegyo. In our eyes he’s a very cute younger brother but starting from last year, he changed a little. Although I do not know why, he seems to mature like an adult now. The music he listens to, the music he wants to produce has also changed. I am looking forward to his future activities. For SOL, from the past till now, he is my good elder brother who will listen to what I want to say. He is gentle, generous and very cool. His performing skills and living conditions is just like an artist. He loves music the most. For T.O.P…. I don’t really have anything special to say (laugh)…. Although he is the eldest, he is the one whom we can joke about like this (laugh). He is generous and it seems like he is able to accept anything you do. His rapping skills are definitely superior. But what I am most impressed about him is still his acting skills. In “71: Into The Fire”, he completely changed into another person. It’s very professional and I respect him a lot.
PERSON: How is D-LITE like?
D-LITE: Oh~ Hmm, how am I like…. I am not sure too. I think I am a person with many sides like a chameleon. When my mood is good I am very cheerful and when opposite, I will have a darker side as well (laugh)
PERSON: You totally do not let people feel that you have a darker side to yourself.
D-LITE: When doing music, I will become very pure. I don’t really go out privately; I will normally just stay at home. I am also shy. Although people say that I look like I have lots of friends, but in truth is, I don’t.
PERSON: What do you do at home?
D-LITE: Nothing special… (laugh) I will watch movies, watch TV, play lego etc. One day will just pass like this unknowingly.
PERSON: This is unexpected. Amongst all these things, what do you treasure the most?
D-LITE: The friendship between humans. Work is naturally important but in the end, as a human, friendship is still most important.
PERSON: Then, tell us about the big or little happy things that happened outside of work.
D-LITE: Outside of work… The little happy things that happened would be when I complete a small lego model. The big happy things would be when I complete the big lego models (laugh). Back to topic, when listening to music, I will think of many things. When I re-arrange my thoughts and play with lego, it is a happy time for me because I get to heal myself.
When the interview ended, we saw about 10 pieces of lego work done by D-LITE in the manager’s phone. “Lego= happiness” should be this I guess. From social interaction, I can see the other side of D-LITE. When interacting in the interview, I see another new side of him and this makes people want to understand him more – he is someone who makes people feel unbelievable.

Covering the classic song ‘I Love You’ for his first solo single. “I have experience in love too!”
“Yutaka Ozaki is a legendary figure. ‘I Love You’ is a classic song that everybody loves. As it’s a song that has already been covered many times, I feel worried.”
Starting his solo career with “D’scover” cover album in February this year, D-LITE lets the public see his power as Bigbang’s main vocals. Next, he released his first solo single ‘I Love You’. This song debuted on Oricon’s daily charts on 4th position and it’s a song where he collaborates with world renowned violinist Hakase Taro. Apart from that, his first kiss scene in the MV has also become a talking point.
“Under Hakase Taro’s splendid performance, my voice was able to blend harmonically into the song. The kiss scene is his first but not the kiss itself. I have had experience in love too! I am not that naïve, everybody please do not worry (laugh) Although I was really nervous during filming, but there weren’t any NGs at all, that’s a pity. Hahaha. Other than using chapstick I don’t really take care of my lips. My lips are originally a pretty pink color (laugh) The chapstick I use that suits my lips a lot is a product from Elizabeth Arden!”
For the first half of the year, you started your solo tour with a solo album and you fulfilled your dream of “a stage where everybody comes together” with 100,000 fans. Bigbang will then start their 6 dome tour near the end of the year.
“I have been performing in Japan for about 5 years. I am very happy being able to fulfill my dreams of performing a dome tour. I have always been thankful and grateful to all my fans. Now, I am anticipating what would happen during the dome concerts, where all members finishes their solo activities and consolidate what they have learnt together and unleash the power during the concert.”

A confession towards a member
Amongst all members only TOP did not come for my solo tour. When I was performing in Osaka he was in Tokyo instead. Up till now, I still feel quite sad…. I am joking (laugh) TOP said he was very sorry and I told him it’s ok because I understand his feelings and that is enough. The other members told me they were very happy and I did a good job. As we are all men, we did not talk deeply about it.

First Japanese solo single
‘I Love You’
By D-LITE
Following the release of “D’scover” on the 27th of February, people has increased their anticipation for D-LITE’s (24) debut. His solo tour that lasted for 3 months starting from March also has a perfect ending to it. D-LITE said that he received many presents from all individuals and that he received a huge amount of energy especially from the fans. D-LITE then released his solo single which everybody has been waiting for. He collaborated with world renowned violinist Hakase Taro and following up his Japanese cover album, he is once again covering ‘I Love You’ in Japanese as well. To this, let us have a good chat with him.
CHOA: You released your solo single ‘I Love You’ in Japan on the 31st of July.
D-LITE: ‘I Love You’ is a classic golden song and it has the same presence as its composer Yutaka Ozaki. It is also a very famous song in Korea and it was also being covered in a very interesting way. Initially I had doubts as well and I wondered if I was able to sing this song without ruining the original song’s impression. However, as I already like this song way before I was to cover it, I had a clear mindset on how I want to re-arrange this song. I also had a very intense feeling of trying to challenge this song. During the recording process, what I care most about is respecting the original song’s vibe. I think that is the most important thing.
CHOA: How would you like to present your own unique colors?
D-LITE: This is the most important part about covering a song. I want to use the song to showcase my different layers. Up till the first chorus, I want to maintain the original song’s mood, atmosphere and from the second verse onwards, I began to think back about how I first felt when I heard this song and adding my own traits in the song as well.
CHOA: You challenged your first kiss scene in this MV.
D-LITE: I was really nervous about filming but once I thought of starting it, I calmed down (laugh). I did not really have much NGs when filming it but due to the different angles required, I had to film it 5 or 6 times. If we continued filming, I think the camera will be able to catch a better expression of mine (laugh).
CHOA: It’s your first time collaborating with Hakase Taro.
D-LITE: Due to time constraints, we did not really sit down and have a chat about music. But once I listened to Hakase Taro’s melody, I had the feeling of “connecting via music”. I was able to clearly present a vocal impression of “let’s just perform it with this feeling”. Although time is limited, I still enjoyed the process.
CHOA: What do you look out for the most?
D-LITE: It seems to be uncommon to be listening to folk in such a hot weather but summer is the season of love. Everybody listens to the music, no matter what love they have, they will want to charge forward. I highly recommend it oh!
CHOA: What is singing to you?
D-LITE: Occasionally, I will think that if there is no “song” and there is no “singing”, what will I be doing right now at this moment. I can’t find an answer. Other than singing, I won’t be able to do anything else. Precisely like this, God gave me such a skill, to make me a singer. I guess this is what they call “fate”.
CHOA: What are Bigbang’s future plans?
D-LITE: This year, the members are busy with their solo activities and although all 5 of us do not have the chance to perform together yet, this is still a good growing-up period for us. I am looking forward to see what sparks will ignite when all of our individual experiences are pooled together as one when we get back together as 5.
“Me” under beads of perspiration
To commemorate UULA’s original TV series ‘I Love You’ premiere, a celebration party was held on the 18th of July at Tokyo’s Skytree. The main actresses of the TV series were all present. At the same time, main title track artist D-LITE appeared on stage as a special guest with an all black suit. Once he showed up, the venue was filled with screams. Being on Skytree for the first time, D-LITE commented happily, “The Skytree is really tall, the atmosphere is good and it’s really hot (laugh). I don’t think there’s anywhere better than here!” D-LITE then performed the title track ‘I Love You’ passionately in front of all guests with beads of perspiration covering his forehead.
“I am covering Japan’s golden song and also have to ensure that it matches with the drama theme. At the same time, I also have to keep the memories of the original song and showcase my unique traits. Be it my ‘I Love You’ or the series ‘I Love You’, I hope everybody can show us support and love!”
